About Me

I was not raised in the church. After the death of my father, my mother seemed to have lost her religion and did not insist my sister and I go to church. She would take us to Sunday School, but that was the extent of our church upbringing. Yet, in my twenties I was interested in things related to God and would attend church to hear the sermon and would question the Pastor about the message, if I had questions. That ended when that person left the pulpit for another church.

Because of my curiosity, I sought other forms of spiritual life in the New Age, that was less satisfying because the gods worship there were not real, or were not the same God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But, I didn’t know. I was hungry and there was seemingly nowhere I could go to satisfy my hunger.

Fast forward a few years, I was married and we had a daughter. My wife had family who lived in Tulsa, OK and her sister attended a demoniational church (know I misspelled that word, but there is a method in my madness, just stick around.) We all liked that church very much. I was elected to the board of deacons and during my term, I asked the Pastor how I could get closer to God. His answer was that I did not want to get closer to God because I would experience all kind of bad things in my life. Well, that sent me back to the New Age.

Fast forward another several years, and I am divorced person I lost a third of my retirement in a bad investment. I was desperate and had come to the end of myself. I would watch Joel Osteen on TV and one of the things he would say at the end of his program, was that if I couldn’t come to his church in Houston, TX that I was to find a good Bible-based church to attend. Well, those words meant nothing to me because even though there were Bibles in the pews in my home church, they would creak when you opened them because they were unused.

One day my computer experienced a power surge and stopped working and I took the tower and my receipt to the box store I bought it from. The clerk told me I was the luckiest man on the planet because the warranty would expire the following day.

A tech was sent to my apartment the next day and he worked on my computer. While he was installing the necessary software that had been corrupted by the power surge, he was talking to me about Jesus and at the end of his visit, he asked me if I would go to church with him. I asked if his church was Bible based. His answer was in the affirmative. I went and got saved. That was 2009.

Ever since then I have been on the journey of seeking the Kingdom of Heaven as found in Matthew 6:28–34.

This blog is for those who may be experiencing the same hunger I did, but do not know how to satisfy it. There will be more than suggesting you find a good Bible-based church.
